It gives us an immense pleasure in welcoming everyone to the UICC 22nd World Cancer Congress in 2012. The WCC is a meeting not only for professionals and experts, it is a rendez-vous for those who believe cancer is everyone’s business.   The theme for the conference “Connecting for Global Impact” will provide a wonderful perspective on all that is related to cancer, all presented by selected experts and designed to invite absorbing discussions and open new vistas for participants.   According to studies and based on 2009 incidence rates, 40% of Canadian women and 45% of men will develop cancer during their lifetimes. An estimated 1 out of every 4 Canadians is expected to die from cancer. An estimated 173,800 new cases of cancer and 76,200 deaths occurred in Canada in 2010.   Against this devastating Canadian background, we have no choice but to invite each and everyone of you to own the cause of cancer by giving you the opportunity to learn, speak and act and thus making Canada a major hub in the fight against cancer worldwide.   We hope you will seize this wonderful opportunity to be part of this greatly anticipated event.
