Significant increases in the number of adults who have abnormalities requires new treatment options based on the severity of the disease. Non-invasive ultrasound testing can determine the locations and extent of the vascular disease. Knowledge of current treatment methodologies and the limitations of each are crucial to proper patient care. Venous reflux testing moves beyond traditional venous testing, focused on detection of DVT, to a preventative approach provides your patients with a rapid and accurate diagnosis.

The understanding of venous insufficiency physiology and its significance, along with the ability to accurately diagnose it, will improve patient care. Attend this conference and:

• Identify the ultrasound equipment requirements for performing venous reflux testing
• Learn to use appropriate duplex instrumentation
• Learn the sonographic characteristics of normal vs. abnormal anatomy, structures and blood flow
• Identify the clinical indication and contradiction for venous reflux testing
• Learn the protocols for a complete venous duplex reflux exam which incorporates both B-mode imaging, colour flow, and Doppler spectral analysis
• Evaluate and analyse ultrasound case studies for disease processes
• Develop scanning skills necessary to obtain a diagnostic clinical image of the lower extremity and complete a venous reflux ultrasound exam
• Participate in dynamic scanning workshops that allow for hands on learning experience under the guidance and supervision of an expert in cardiovascular ultrasound imaging

Faculty:
T.J. Zwakenberg, BS, RRT, RDCS, RVT, Director of Cardiovascular Services, Advanced Health Education Center: T.J. has more than 30 years experience in healthcare with 22 practicing years in cardiovascular ultrasound. He has been faculty with AHEC for more than 20 years as he developed his administrative skills in his different employment roles in hospitals, education, and as owner of a cardiovascular moblie service. His skills in the classroom have earned him a consistent following from his physician classes and he is consultant to multiple vein centers. He lectures and trains with AHEC's consultant division across the United States. Working in the clinical area with his current clients, he maintains the clinical as well as the academic skills by training physicians in the classroom and in the surgical area.
